The Digital Teammate

The Digital Teammate Project aims to explore how AI models can be used to improve perioperative care. The Digital Teammate is an AI interface backed with a custom evidence base. It is designed to answer patient questions and provide reassurance to people undergoing surgery. Preliminary user acceptance testing has demonstrated positive results, with a majority of patient and clinician partners finding that the Teammate can provide accurate and emotionally supportive perioperative care. Currently, the Digital Teammate is undergoing a prospective feasibility study at The Ottawa Hospital.

Large Language Model Review

Large language models such as ChatGPT have the potential to revolutionize healthcare, but given their novelty, much work needs to be done to ensure that they are safe, accurate and have a meaningful impact on patient care. Our work aims to summarize the trends in LLM use in perioperative care; the strengths, weaknesses and primary use cases. We hope that this work will help clinician-scientists understand the utility of AI in healthcare.
